I believe that singing begins with speech.

My approach to teaching is rooted in the bel canto tradition, but at its heart is something simple: the voice should communicate. Beautiful singing is not separate from expression, language, or storytelling, but it is the means through which these things become even more powerful.

I work with singers to develop a free, responsive instrument that allows the voice to serve the music and the text . I want singers to feel that they are speaking through music, with the same immediacy and connection they have when they speak.

After more than two decades as a professional singer, I also understand that developing a voice is about much more than mastering technique. As a teacher, I try to meet each singer where they are and help them discover individual qualities that make their voice and artistry distinctive. I want them to become the most compelling version of themselves.
